I loved the art and the overall story, although I felt it was a little muddled in places- the plot would move slowly and then suddenly move too fast. Julie seemed angrier than expected suddenly. There was nothing to understand why she was so uptight about her werewolf form when there were so many other monster characters, they were obviously normal. With how cool the villain is, I wanted a little more to them in the end. Other than that I did really like the characters, especially their designs and expressions. Recommended for anyone looking for a light and fun read! I look forward to the next book!Tags : Amazon.com: Moonstruck Volume 1: Magic to Brew (9781534304772): Grace Ellis, Shae Beagle, Kate Leth: Books,Grace Ellis, Shae Beagle, Kate Leth,Moonstruck Volume 1: Magic to Brew,Image Comics,1534304770,Fantasy,Romance,Comic books, strips, etc.,Comics (Graphic works),Lesbians,Magic,Romance comics,Teenagers,Werewolves,COMICS & GRAPHIC NOVELS Fantasy,COMICS & GRAPHIC NOVELS Romance,Comics & Graphic Novels,Comics & Graphic NovelsFantasy,Fiction,Fiction-Romance,GRAPHIC NOVELS,GRAPHIC WORKS FICTION,General Adult,SCIENCE FICTION AND FANTASY,Serials, 1st only,United States
Moonstruck Volume 1 Magic to Brew Grace Ellis Shae Beagle Kate Leth Books Reviews
This series, and art is so cute, and gorgeous!
This was a gift, my roommate loves it and it came in with no damage.
I LOVE THIS BOOK. It’s supper cute and fun. The art work is great and so is the writing. I couldn’t find anything wrong with the book.
I haven’t read many comics, but as a lesbian barista this was exactly what I needed. The art is gorgeous. It’s definitely worth the read. I’ll be recommending it to everyone I know who likes comics or is gay.
Cute story with lovely, lovely artwork and fun characters. A little hard to follow at parts, might just be me.
I'm not sure if I'm just at a different point in life than the authors, but I found the main character very unsympathetic and annoying, and that kind of... unreliable perspective that I can see people wholly getting behind and it fueling their own childish self-righteousness. The art is lovely, and I like the way the world is arranged, but I was planning on gifting this to my girlfriend for her birthday along with a few other lesbian comics and I don't think I'm going to. The relationship portrayed takes the trope of jealousy and insecurity and makes it anxiety-fueled and inducing rather than sexy, which is I guess more realistic, but is not great to read.
It's cute book. the art is great and really helps to set the scene of this magical world. I took issue with the characters and the narrative. The main character is a werewolf who is very self conscious about it but it's never really clear since apparently, there are not only plenty of werewolves but also people who can shift into other animals. Her best friend is a centaur who I found a little grating with his "lol XD so random" personality. I didn't find much fault with the girlfriend character but I didn't understand their relationship. the main character starts the book having had one date with her girlfriend they seem to have some issues (over what I thought was very minor things) and decide at the end of the book to go to couple's therapy to solve them but like, they weren't together for that. I assume maybe a month has passed, just break up. I just didn't understand that.
The narrative itself didn't seem tight. One character has cryptic visions that didn't really seem to pan out or really have the gravity she seemed to put to them. there is a meta narrative involving a book the main character likes and the events in that book mirror the events in the comic but I didn't really see it that strongly and it seemed to have little use. The main conflict seems to be solved very quickly and with little fanfare.
All in all, it's not a bad book. i just found it a bit weak. It's not amazing, nor above average. But it's also not garbage or terrible. It's won't have the greatest of appeal but I'm not upset I bought it and it's not a waste of time. However, I wouldn't read any additional work of this series.
